Taiwanese auteur Edward Yang’s second feature TAIPEI STORY is filled with stylish images that capture the wandering souls during the rise of a metropolis. What identity do individuals belong to, and what values should they obtain during the time of the repressive regime? 

Returning to Taiwan from the US, Lon (Hou Hsiao-Hsien) drives around in his luxury Mercedes but struggles to accommodate his girlfriend (Tsai Chin)’s dazzling western lifestyle. Will they achieve their American dreams before the glamorous lies start to crumble?
