Award-winning documentary director LAU Kek-huat (Boluomi, TWFF 2020) returns with his second narrative feature, a poignant exploration of multigenerational migration and identity beyond borders. Executive produced by the team behind Abang Adik (2023), including Jin ONG and Tony HU.
After years working in Taiwan, Ah Yao returns to Malaysia for his father’s funeral. The journey draws him back to childhood memories and the story of his grandfather’s migration from Fujian, China, to Malaysia nearly a century ago. At the same time, he reconnects with his younger brother, now involved in a political movement. Moving between past and present, the film traces the lingering echoes of displacement and belonging, revealing histories and voices long suppressed within a society shaped by discrimination against migrant communities.
