The documentary traces a half-century journey, documenting early engineers who traveled abroad to secure foundational technology during times of extreme resource scarcity. Through first-hand accounts and rich archival footage, the film highlights the forgotten workers who established the island's economic backbone in makeshift laboratories. It also extends seamlessly into the modern era, examining the complex new challenges younger engineers face amid shifting, cutthroat global competition.

As the first feature-length documentary to map Taiwan's semiconductor history, A Chip Odyssey represents an ambitious five-year undertaking by two-time Golden Horse winner HSIAO Chu-chen. Inspired by a 2019 memorial service for technology pioneer HU Ting-hua, Hsiao and her crew interviewed over eighty key individuals, ranging from pioneering engineers and early female factory workers to policymakers. The film brilliantly reconstructs a comprehensive history of an industry that evolved from humble beginnings into a dominant global force, transforming technology into a deeply human epoch.

紀錄長片《造山者：世紀的賭注》作為台灣首部以半導體產業發展史為主題的電影，由兩度榮獲金馬獎的導演蕭菊貞歷時五年拍攝完成。 影片源自導演於 2019 年參與科技先驅胡定華追思會時的啟發，劇組大規模訪問了超過八十位關鍵人物，從拓荒工程師、早期工廠女作業員到核心決策者。本片精準拼湊出這項產業從微時起步到領先全球的完整歷程，將冰冷的科技史成功轉化為一段宏大的人文史詩。

影片回溯台灣半導體半個世紀的發展軌跡，記錄第一代先行者如何在資源有限、前景未明的環境下，押上一整個世代的青春取回技術火種。透過第一手訪談與珍貴歷史影像，觀眾得以看見那些鮮少被提及的工程師與女作業員的故事，並展現他們在國際競爭中打造出「護國神山」的艱辛過程。影片同時延伸至當代，探討年輕一代面對地緣政治變局的新挑戰。
