Director Fu brings her childhood memories in a barbershop to life in this beautiful and heartwarming film. Through an intimate female perspective, the film delves into the themes of motherhood and human connection with grace and tenderness. DAY OFF showcases the intangible bonds we form with others, the moments of love, understanding, and support, are what truly give life its value and meaning.

For the past four decades, A-Rui has diligently operated her barbershop, not only as a skilled hairdresser but also as a compassionate observer who listens to and connects with her clients. Despite her children's criticism of her methods, A-Rui makes a firm decision to embark on a long road trip. Her goal is to visit a long-time client who is now bedridden and give him a final haircut before it's too late. 

你去過台式家庭理髮廳擼頭毛嗎？不同於九把刀新作的濃郁浪漫色調，《本日公休》一樣設定在理髮廳，卻富有寫實主義的台灣人情味。本作難得邀請到金馬影后陸小芬付出，息影數十年仍然表現出強大氣場，陸小芬從八零年代展示肉體的豪放女設定，搖身一變為年長的家庭理髮師母親，其銀幕影像的轉變、洗盡鉛華的清淡表演，可以讓觀眾見證時代的變遷；與新生代演員如施名帥、陳庭妮、方志友、傅孟柏等人之間的對戲與火花更是一大亮點。導演傅天余取材自親身經驗，製作歷時三年，參與的監製人員包括台灣編劇教父吳念真和《孤味》製片人吳明憲，共同譜寫一封給台灣媽媽的美好情書。

中年的阿蕊（陸小芬 飾）經營一家理髮廳，為自己固定的老客戶們服務，聽他們的人生故事，講自己的媽媽經，更要擔心三個子女各自的生涯發展。有一天她接到一通電話，她決定掛上「本日公休」的牌子，出門辦事，不只是基於理髮師的責任，也是要好好做人......
