The long-awaited sophomore feature from HUANG Xi (Missing Johnny, 2017), Daughter’s Daughter is a masterfully restrained portrait of generational wounds, maternal regret, and the fragile search for redemption. Co-produced by Taiwanese cinema icons HOU Hsiao-Hsien and Sylvia CHANG, with legendary editor Ching-Song LIAO(Flowers of Shanghai, 1998) and evocative cinematography by YAO Hung-I (Long Day’s Journey into Night, 2018).
A retired woman’s tranquil routine is upended by an unforeseen twist of fate—one that compels her to confront the ghosts of past decisions and an estranged bond with her daughter. As time folds in on itself, Daughter’s Daughter unfolds as a raw, emotionally unflinching meditation on motherhood, memory, and the fragile hope of forgiveness.
Jin Aixia (Sylvia CHANG), now in her sixties, has lived between two places—New York and Taiwan. Years ago, she gave up her daughter Emma for adoption in the United States. Today, she struggles to maintain a connection with her other daughter, Zuer, who lives in Taiwan but is preparing to travel to New York for IVF treatment. When an unexpected accident strikes, Aixia is forced to make an impossible decision regarding Zuer’s fertilised embryo—just as Emma reappears in her life. Winner of Best Original Screenplay at the 2024 Golden Horse Awards, Daughter’s Daughter is a quietly powerful addition to Taiwan’s contemporary cinema—subtle, melancholic, and profoundly human.
黃熙繼《強尼．凱克》後睽違七年的全新力作《女兒的女兒》，以沉靜內斂的敘事筆觸，細膩描繪跨世代創傷、母女情感與尋求寬恕的旅程。本片由台灣電影重量級人物侯孝賢與張艾嘉共同監製，《海上花》剪接大師廖慶松與《地球最後的夜晚》風格攝影師姚宏易聯手打造，細膩營造出詩意氛圍與情感張力。
金愛霞（張艾嘉 飾）年過耳順，往返於台灣與紐約之間，過著平靜自處的退休生活。某日突如其來的消息打破寧靜——即將赴美接受人工生殖療程的小女兒祖兒遭遇意外離世，愛霞面臨是否保留被冷凍胚胎的艱難抉擇。而多年未見、當年親手送養的長女艾瑪，也在此時重新出現在她的生命中。兩段母女關係的交錯與碰撞，使她不得不面對過往的陰影與深埋心底的傷痕。
《女兒的女兒》透過溫潤的影像語言與情感深度，探問生命、親情與寬恕的可能，真摯動人，餘韻悠長。榮獲第61屆金馬獎最佳原創劇本，是當代華語影壇不可錯過的靜謐之美作。
