Directed by the acclaimed documentary filmmaker Lungnan Isak FANGAS, HERO！HITO！ captures the historic journey of Taiwan’s national baseball team to their world championship. The film masterfully blends personal stories, high-quality tournament footage, and revealing player interviews to show how this team found the strength to keep fighting against insurmountable odds.
In 2013, Taiwan suffered a heartbreaking loss against Japan during the World Baseball Classic, an event that became one of the most-watched programs on Taiwanese cable television of all time. Eleven years later, the national team returned for a triumphant run at the 2024 WBSC Premier12 tournament. With veteran players returning as coaches, a fierce new generation of athletes united under manager TSENG Hao-chiu. Defying all expectations and a grueling match schedule, these newcomers played with absolute ferocity, culminating in a historic final rematch where they defeated Japan to claim the world crown.
More than a sports film, HERO！HITO！ serves as a profound love letter to Taiwan. It brilliantly captures the heavy mantle of national representation, proving that ultimate victory is a collective miracle built on decades of enduring faith, resilience, and unyielding community pride.
